What’s this all about?

When you join Vampire society, you start at the very bottom. Nobody gets a free ride. Expect the world to treat you badly.

Vampire society has rules that you will learn over time. Breaking these laws will have consequences.

During this game we are hopefully going to see your characters rise from being the underdogs to inhabiting positions of power and influence. How you do that is up to you, but remember, there are always consequences.

This isn’t going to be, “The GM has a story and the Players react” kind of game. We are all playing characters – you’ve made your characters, I’m going to attempt to play the rest of the world.

I have a situation in mind, not a defined story. I know the key players and what some of them want. It’s our job, together, to say how this plays out. Feel free to suggest a story arc, it can’t break things because nothing is set in stone until we decide.

Try to use your character’s actions to move the story forward and entertain the other players. You have five other people whose job it is to entertain you, repay that by entertaining them. Your chances of having fun are much better if five people are entertaining you. Besides, if all you wanted was to entertain yourself, you could do that much more effectively at home, alone!

If a player says they are going to do something, add to that situation and build a story together. This will move things forward. If you shut down a suggestion the story will come to a halt.

Unless you explicitly say otherwise, we will assume that anything you say is your character talking. Obvious exceptions being rules questions and things like, “I walk across the room and open the door.”.

In the Alien RPG, I think each character having an agenda really helps things. I’m going to suggest that after maybe a couple of sessions each player comes up with something they want to accomplish. We can do this either as a group or in secret, whatever you think is best. There are even ‘Desire’ and ‘Ambition’ boxes on the character sheet for this.
