Episode 1b – The investigation begins

Although the Slippery Eel was bustling with patrons, Janoszerilyn sat alone. He watched the candle on the table before him through a large glass of vintage Iruvian brandy and contemplated recent events.

He understood what Mylera was doing, but in his opinion it wasn’t necessary for the boy to die. In cases like this twenty lashes would usually be enough, but as the boy had left his post on such an important night she’d decided to have him executed.

Deep down Janoszerilyn knew Mylera didn’t care about the prisoner, all of her anger was down to the theft of her Father’s sabre. All the treasures in her office, some of the finest art in all of the Shattered Isles, and they took the one thing she still had of his. The sabre was a gift from the Emperor himself after the Unity war, that made it personal.

The candle flame flickered in the draft as the door opened. A young man entered the tavern dressed entirely in black except for a red sash. He scanned the room for Janoszerilyn and made his way over to the table.

“How did the trade go?”, asked the newcomer sitting down.
“Fine.”, replied Janoszerilyn.
“Good. That’s good.”, said the boy nervously, “I’ll be glad to see the back of him. He gives me the creeps. I don’t care how much money he has, or who he knows, there’s something just not right about him.”.
“Know your place!”, snapped Janoszerilyn, “It’s not for us to question what Mylera commands. You will do your duty.”.
“Sorry Sir! What about the other thing? Nobody even has a name for it yet. Some of the other students are calling it, ‘the exposion’!”
“Don’t you worry about that.”, Janoszerilyn said standing and getting ready to leave, “I’ve managed to get an audience with the Dimmer Sisters. If anyone can explain it, it’ll be them.”.
“Do you think we’re under attack? We don’t even have a clue who’s behind all this!”. The boy shouted as the older man walked towards the door.
“This is Doskvol, there’s always somebody who knows!”
